An elected school board member who serves on a local school board in Northern Illinois, made some comments about the US flag that are drawing a lot criticism from her constituents and others.

Many are considering this an insult to America, but Elgin U46 School Board member Traci O'Neal Ellis says she doesn't regret her comment she posted to Facebook.

Her remarks were in reference to supporting the NFL players, who take a knee, during the national anthem. In reference to this, she commented on the U.S. flag via a Facebook post to her personal page, the Chicago Tribune reports she said:

That flag means nothing more than toilet paper to me.

The fact that she was comparing the United States flag with toilet paper is drawing criticism.

She went on to say:

...and I promise you, I would take #TakeAKnee at school board meetings if my doing so would not be disruptive to kids and a distraction to the work we need to do for them

Here comments were both criticized and praised by community members and other elected officials.

Do you think her comments were out of place for an elected official?
