As temperatures are expected to soar into the 80s and 90s over the next couple of weeks, along with higher Summer rates, Illinois residents can expect bigger electric bills.

The Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) is warning residents about coming increases in energy supply prices for both ComEd and Ameren customers.

Summer Electric Bills Up $11 to $45 a Month

According to the ICC press release, an average ComEd customer can expect their electric bill to increase by around $11 per month. In comparison, Ameren customers will see an average increase of about $45 a month on their Summer bill.

Energy affordability is always top of mind at the ICC, and we want ratepayers to be aware of higher summertime rates so they can safely plan to reduce energy usage and improve energy efficiency around their homes. Jonathan Feipel, Executive Director, Illinois Commerce Commission

To help offset some of the price spikes in the Summer, the ICC provided some practical steps that Illinois residents can take to keep their households cool without breaking the bank.
