Even when workers aren't present, you must always obey Illinois construction zone speed restrictions.

It's the summertime in Illinois.

That means I'm going to run into road work everywhere.

Sometimes I get frustrated because I'm trying to get somewhere, the traffic is slowed down because of construction, and there's nobody working.

I've been told by a couple of friends that you don't have to obey those speed limits when workers aren't present.

That doesn't seem right to me, so I decided to look it up.

According to idot.illinois.gov,

"Workers do not have to be present to receive a speeding ticket in a work zone."

The Illinois Tollway even sent out a message on their Twitter account about it.

If you believed those rumors, now you have the facts.
