Illinois’ Most Famous Band Revealed & It’s Not Who You Think
When it comes to famous bands from Illinois, it really is a tough decision.
What are you going by? Grammy awards? Album or ticket sales? Longevity?
When it comes to music in Illinois, we've been blessed to have artists who are some of the biggest in the world, and also some who have been doing it for a long time.
As a Chicago-born music lover, my mind immediately started wandering trying to figure out who would be the choice. Could it be The Smashing Pumpkins? Probably not, my favorite, but still.
Would it be a simpler choice like Chicago or REO Speedwagon?
I work and live in the Rockford area, so I thought it could be Cheap Trick. After all, they are recent inductees in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, so I thought there was a good to very good chance they were Yahoo's pick.
Turns out it wasn't any of the bands I mentioned above, but it doesn't mean they are any less legendary.
Earth, Wind & Fire is one of the most popular and critically acclaimed bands of the '70s. The band's breakthrough album, "That's the Way of the World," released in 1975, introduced the hit single "Shining Star" and was followed by a stream of five consecutive multiplatinum albums. Earth, Wind & Fire has also taken home six Grammys out of an impressive 17 nominations.
