When it comes to goods and services across America, prices for just about everything is at an all-time high.

I remember in the late 2000s when gas prices were seemingly through the roof. People everywhere were outraged.

It took some time but the price of fuel eventually calmed down. It took years, not months or days, but it finally got to a reasonable enough price to where the complaints finally chilled out.

Now gas prices (along with everything else) are up, like, way up. Matter of fact, I don't think I've ever seen the price for a tank of gas any higher in my entire life.

I lived in Chicago in the early 2000s when gas prices were surging but now, living way out of The Windy City, I am seeing Chicago prices without the Chicago life. Wonderful.

The price for a gallon of fuel is so expensive across the state, that Illinois is now the not-so-proud owner of a dubious distinction.

First, why is Illinois, smack dab in the middle of America, grouped with Alaska, California, Hawaii, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington as the states with the highest gas prices in the US?

Second, in case you guessed it, Illinois is now selling, on average, a gallon of gas at or above $5.

If you haven't filled up in a while, be prepared for sticker shock. About a week or so ago, I was paying $80 to fill up my vehicle. I was on E so I did the same on Tuesday. $100 to fill up. I was stunned.
