Illinois Governor Issues Disaster Proclamation After Severe Flooding
Illinois Governor JB Pritzker has declared a state disaster proclamation following days of storms and heavy rain.
Flooding Prompts State Disaster Proclamation
According to the press release, severe thunderstorms and flooding slammed Cook, Jersey, and Calhoun Counties between July 25-28, 2025, and with the Governor's proclamation, state resources would be available to aid communities that are still recovering from storm damage.
Illinois families and communities are still facing the impacts of these devastating storms. With this proclamation, we are making sure every tool at the state’s disposal is available to support recovery. -JB Pritzker, Governor of Illinois
Damage Confirmed Through Assessments
In conjunction with FEMA and local governments, the Illinois Emergency Management Agency and Office of Homeland Security conducted a preliminary assessment of the storm damage.

There was confirmed widespread destruction to homes, businesses, and infrastructure, according to the press release.
The damage assessments confirmed the tremendous strain these storms have placed on our counties. This disaster proclamation allows us to expand assistance and keep recovery operations moving forward. -Acting Director Theodore Berger of IEMA-OHS
Communities Struggle With Recovery
The storm caused widespread flash flooding, power outages, and ended up leaving roads blocked, and homeowners, businesses, and local governments struggling with long-term challenges.
