This requirement comes from an amendment to the Equal Pay Act of 2003, which was passed by the General Assembly and signed into law by Governor JB Pritzker in 2023.
A Step Toward Wage Equality
IDOL Director Jane Flanagan emphasized the importance of this legislation, stating, “Governor Pritzker and the General Assembly continue to take bold action toward eliminating gender and racial wage gaps.”
By increasing wage transparency, the law seeks to empower job seekers and create a more equitable workplace environment.
Under the new law, individuals who find job postings that don't provide the required salary and benefit details are encouraged to file complaints with IDOL.

Complaints must be submitted within one year of the violation, and individuals are advised to include links, pictures, or screenshots of the offending postings.
IDOL will notify employers of any complaints and set a deadline for them to rectify the issue.
