UPDATE: We just received word that the Lorden Building (aka Founders Landing) is not being torn down, it's just not ideal for a skate park.

Downtown Rockford's continual transformation means the end of the road for one of the most recognizable buildings in the city.

Founder's Landing at Davis Park was the backdrop of some of the biggest concerts to ever take place in Rockford. It was also the home of many Friday Night Flix, synthetic ice rinks, and plenty of other festivals. Unfortunately, although not confirmed by city officials, there are plans to tear it down.

Downtown Rockford business Ground Floor Skateboards shared the news on Facebook while explaining Rockford ShareFest plans.

You’ve all heard about the skatepark in Davis Park by now. Originally it was planned to go in the Founders Landing building, but unbeknownst to us on the planning committee, it’s been slated to be demolished. (CORRECTION: it’s not been torn down although that is what I was told... regardless it’s not happening there.) That means even if we had built inside it we would have had to move all the ramps anyway to our second location around the gazebo. I’ve included pictures of the spot. It’s not inside, but we’ll still have all the same components and the ground is good there.

As of this writing, I've not seen any other reports to confirm Founder's Landing will be torn down but I vouge for Ground Floor Skateboards accuracy as they're not known for sharing false information. As indicated, a skatepark will be constructed within the rejuvenated Davis Park. However, it'll be sad to see the iconic building missing from downtown Rockford's skyline.
