Bummer News: No Ice Castles in Wisconsin Again This Year
Ice Castles, a beloved and award-winning attraction made from hand-placed icicles ,has announced the four locations they will be coming to this winter, and it's bad news for residents in Illinois and Wisconsin.
Ice Castles Experience
For several years in a row Ice Castles brought their amazing frozen wonderland to Lake Geneva, Wisconsin and tickets would see out as soon as they became available. Looking at these pictures it's not hard to figure out why...
These magnificent sculptures, tunnels, slides, fountains and more made completely from hand-placed icicles are obviously very time consuming to construct, but they are even harder to maintain, and that's where the real problem lies.
If you've tried to visit Ice Castles in Lake Geneva before, you probably remember that the season opening date usually kept getting pushed back due to weather, and by that I mean, until it's cold enough for the Ice Castles to stay in tact.
Could the milder Wisconsin winters be reason the state has not been chosen to receive the Ice Castles experience again this year? I'd place my money on YES. (although that has never been officially announced as the reason why).
Ice Castles Locations for Winter 2024/2025
Ice Castles may not be coming to Wisconsin this winter, but they will be coming to four other locations in America which are;
- Cripple Creek, Colorado
- Eagle, Colorado
- Minnesota
- New Hampshire
- Utah
Ice Castles Replacement in Wisconsin
When Ice Castles didn't come to Lake Geneva in 2023, a new version of the experience called Winter Realms did.
While very similar to Ice Castles, Winter Realms is " an unforgettable fusion of light, nature and seasonal wonders." Basically, it's beautiful winter fun with a lot of lights and far less ice.
In 2023, Winter Realms took place at the Grand Geneva Resort & Spa, all although their website has not confirmed the experience will return to that location, there has been some chatter about its return to Lake Geneva...
If you want to find out when Winter Realms will make its return to Lake Geneva, be sure to keep a close eye on winterrealms.com.
