Google recently made a major upgrade to one of its privacy features, and every Illinois resident should be taking advantage of it!

How Much Does the Internet Know About You?

I think most people would agree that internet technology has made so many things in life so much easier. Yes, technology has taken over too much of our lives and often puts too much of our personal information in danger, but are willing to give up the convenience of things like shopping and paying bills online due to fear of the unknown? I for one, am not.

What Does Google's 'Results About You' Feature Do?

Google's privacy feature called Results About You debuted in 2022 and it was designed to make you aware of what websites have access to your personal information. If you've never heard about or noticed this privacy feature on your Google dashboard before, (I never did!), the powerful feature just got an upgrade that makes it even easier to request the removal of your info from certain websites.

According to Google;

Last year, we launched the Results about you tool to make it easy for you to request the removal of search results that contain your personal phone number, home address or email, right from the Google app or however you access Search. Now, we’ve significantly updated and improved the tool, helping you keep track of your personal contact information in Search and alerting you when we find it, so you can get it removed.

Google users will soon see a dashboard appear that will alert them when personal information has been searched for and then they can request removal with one click in the same tool.

The Results About You service is completely free, and once you sign up Google will begin monitoring for your name, address, email, and phone number.
