Free Summer Movies Coming to Rockford’s Coronado Theatre

Until the construction and upgrades at Davis Park in downtown Rockford are complete, there will be free summer movies at the historic Coronado Theatre, but on a different day.

Free Summer Movies Announced at Rockford’s Coronado

Rockford residents will soon have a new reason to head downtown this summer for the launch of the first-ever Coronado Summer Cinema. This event promises free, family-friendly entertainment.

According to the announcement, this event is more than a movie screening, but an effort to expand access to cultural experiences, especially for families who may not otherwise afford traditional ticketed events.

The Coronado will open its doors free of charge, an increasingly rare move as entertainment costs rise across Illinois and the country.

What To Expect This Summer

Two major films are scheduled for the inaugural Coronado Summer Cinema series, with Wicked: For Good screening on Saturday, June 13.

On Saturday, July 11, Zootopia 2 will be featured at the historic Coronado.

Doors will open at 1:30 p.m, with both movies beginning at 3 p.m. Admission is free, and attendees should expect a mix of paid and free experiences during the event.

Food vendors will be on-site, and some activities may carry additional costs. Guests are encouraged to bring both cash and cards, as well as limited outside snacks and non-alcoholic beverages allowed inside the theatre.
