The topic of Sizzlers came up on the morning show the other day.

The genesis of the conversation was this incredible video that was going viral on Twitter.

Truly an amazing video. I grew up in the 90s, I didn't realize that it was 100 years ago. Has a video every felt more dated? That's only 30 years ago but I felt like I was watching a video of the Beatles invasion.

And could Sizzler have been taking themselves any more seriously?

It's the choice that Americans want.

It's bold.

It's unique.

It's ahead of the competition.

Sizzler for the 90s, exactly what Americans want.

Dude, you're slinging mid-grade steaks and iceberg lettuce, not brokering world peace.

To be honest with you, before I saw this video I wasn't even sure it Sizzlers were real. I thought that they might have been a catch all name for any buffet that focused on mashed potatoes, meatloaf, and salad bars. It turns out they were VERY real, and, according to that promotional video "exactly what Americans want."

I asked Riley if he remembered a Sizzler ever being in Rockford and he drew a blank. I, obviously don't remember any Sizzlers since I thought they were fictional. I did make many trips to the local Ponderosa when I was a kid and I'm pretty sure that was a similar experience.

Was Ponderosa good? I don't think I ever went to one after the age of 8 and eight year olds don't generally have great taste in restaurants. I do remember loving the ice cream sundae bar at the end of the meal, but that's basically all I can remember.
