ComEd Releases Important Safety Tips for Flooded Basements
So many people in the Stateline are currently struggling with some of the worst flooding this area has seen in decades.
We've seen the drone videos and pictures, and we know many of our neighbors need help. We need to check on them and offer them any assistance we are able to give.
Having a flooded home is not only incredibly frustrating and heartbreaking, it is extremely dangerous as well.
ComEd recently issued a press release of safety tips everyone dealing with a flooded basement NEEDS to remember to stay safe. A few of the most important ones to remember are:
- You need to call ComEd immediately at 1-800-EDISON-1 to disconnect power to a flooded basement.
- NEVER wade into a flooded basement unless all electricity has been disconnected. Water may be in electrical outlets, appliances and cords creating a high risk of electrocution.
- DO NOT wade into a flooded basement during a power outage. The only time it is safe to do so is when you know the power is not going to come back on because it has been disconnected.
- Never attempt to turn off power at a breaker box if you have to stand in water to do so.
The City of Freeport shared the entire press release on Facebook, which you can read right here..
Stay safe, my friends, and if you need any help, please let us know!
