When dangerously low wind chills and temps hit, there are several places in Rockford where the homeless can go to stay warm, but they often fill up quick.

In this recent bout of bitter cold, the City of Rockford was reminding all residents to notify the Homeless Outreach staff if they came across any resident in need of warm, safe play to stay. This past weekend the Homeless Outreach received a call about a homeless man found sleeping on a porch, and thankfully one staff member immediately sprang to action.

According to the City of Rockford, the employee's name is Michelle, and her dedication literally saved a man's life...

Rockford Mayor Tom McNamara had this to say about Michelle on Facebook;

We are fortunate to have Michelle as an Outreach Specialist. She most likely saved a life this weekend, but what was equally as impressive is that she went and visited the resident in the hospital just to check up on him and ensure he was on the road to recovery.

           City of Rockford Government has so many passionate, caring and              committed employees.

In tough times we all need to look out for another. If you see someone in trouble, help them, or call someone who can. If you know of someone who needs a shelter from the storm, direct them to one of these places:

  • Rockford Overnight Café - 318 N Church St., open daily from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.
  • Rockford Rescue Mission - 715 West State St., open 24/7
  • Carpenters Place - 1149 Railroad Avenue, Open Weekdays 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

You can also call Rockford's 24/7 Homeless Outreach Hotline at 844-710-6919 ext. 5 and then awesome people like Michelle Lindstedt will take it from there.
