Unlike other cities in Illinois, Rockford does not have its own flag.

Aurora, Peoria, and Chicago all have their own flags but the idea for Rockford its own has seemingly fizzled away.

Here's a look at Illinois' official flag.

There's an interesting conversation happening online that lead to the brief conversation about Rockford, Illinois's flag, or the lack of it. Back in 2018, there was a campaign to choose the city's flag and it was even narrowed down to three possible options.

A group dubbed Rockford City Flag Campaign asked residents to vote for one of the following flags.

Each flag design was a different way to represent Rockford but not only was a "winner" ever determined, the URL for the campaign no longer exists. (You can still read the idea behind each flag.)

What The French, Toast?!

Let's pretend that the whole ordeal wasn't a waste of time but, instead, it never even happened. Let's say there is an actual attempt to create an official flag for Rockford, Illinois, and the first step is determining which colors would be used.

What colors best represent Rockford?

A similarly worded question led to a meaningful, albeit short conversation on Reddit. A few of the suggestions made great sense. A few quickly noted the colors of the "Symbol" and, to add to that, the exterior color of BMO Harris Bank Center (a.k.a. the MetroCentre) would be a logical option too.

Rockford's Meaningful Colors

In addition to the color of "symbol" and BMO, one person mentioned the school colors in the areas. Both Auburn and East High School's colors are red and black. Jefferson uses red as well as white and gold. Guilford Vikings' colors are blue and white, while Boylan is repped with green and white.

But, wait, there's more meaning with green.

Another Redditor suggested green and explained the why.

Since Rockford has also been known as the Forest City, one should also add Green to the list of the colors of Rockford.

There were more suggestions with reasons to back them and maybe, just maybe, this will re-spark the defunct Rockford, Illinois flag campaign.
