When disaster strikes in the United States many of us have the same thought, "what can I do to help? The winter weather that has struck caused Texas to shut down has been on the minds of many and there is a way to help. Donate blood. Why? Because the power outages have affected millions of residents, businesses, hospitals, and Texas-area blood centers.

Our friends at Rock River Valley Blood Center sent us this note:

Texas has also been impacted by numerous power outages and many are going on three to four days of this. While that news is unfortunate, our local community will play a part in helping those in need in Texas. As you can imagine due to the power loss and weather, blood centers in Texas are suffering. The Rock River Valley Blood Center has been asked to help out and will be sending 25-50 units of blood to the state today.

If Rock River Valley Blood Center is able to send more, they will, but they're going to need your help. If you are feeling healthy and well, you can schedule an appointment to attempt to donate at rrvbc.org, on the myRRVBC app, or by calling 815-965-8751. Walk-ins are also welcome at one of the four RRVBC donor centers in Rockford, Belvidere, or Freeport, or at a mobile blood drive, but scheduling your donation is much easier.
