Chris Young and Gavin DeGraw came together on a recent episode of CMT's Crossroads, the genre-blending show that pairs two artists of different musical backgrounds to perform together and collaborate on each other's hits. The episode featuring Young and DeGraw was taped in late November, and will air on Friday (Dec. 13) at 9PM CT.

Ahead of the broadcast, fans can watch DeGraw and Young's performance of DeGraw's 2003 megabit, " I Don't Want to Be." Press play above to watch as the two vocalists trade verses, with DeGraw contributing accompaniment on the keys. At the end of the song, the artists come together for an enthusiastic high five.

The country star points out that though fans might think of him and DeGraw as very different artists, they've long been friends, and enjoyed the process of blending their diverse musical styles over the course of the collaboration.

"I've been a fan of Gavin's songwriting and music for a lot of years, and we've become friends since he's moved to Nashville so teaming up for Crossroads was pretty much a no-brainer," Young explains (quote via Nash Country Daily.) "We had a lot of fun onstage together collaborating on each other's hits and stretching beyond what people might expect to hear from us."

"I met Chris at a barroom in Nashville a couple years back and we hit it off right away. He's a bar guy, like me," DeGraw adds. "We all love country music, and the best thing about country is the feeling of community around it. Chris embodies that sense of community, not only in his music, but in real life as well. That's why I'm excited to be part of Crossroads with him."

In addition to "I Don't Wanna Be," the two artists offered up live renditions of a number of their hits over the course of their Crossroads performance. From Young's catalogue, they included "Raised on Country," "I'm Comin' Over," "Hangin' On" and the brand-new "Drowning." They also performed DeGraw's "Not Over You," "Sweeter" and Soldier," as well as a cover of Paul McCartney's "Maybe I'm Amazed."

As DeGraw indicated prior to the performance, he is well acquainted with the country community. The singer-songwriter also collaborated with Brett Young (who is a longtime DeGraw super-fan) for his late 2018 album, Ticket to L.A.
