Big Ten Star Uses Name To Help Out Coolest Tradition In Sports
One of the best traditions in all of sports is The Wave in Kinnick Stadium during every Iowa Hawkeye home football game.
If you're not aware of the wave, this little video should help.
Warning! This is a Tom Rinaldi story so you'll probably cry a little.
At the end of the 1st quarter at every home game the players and the entire stadium turn their backs to the field and wave to the kids watching the game from the children's hospital across the street.
It's goosebump city every time they do it.
Opposing teams are getting in on the action.
They've even won awards for it.
And now one of the Hawkeye stars wants to use his newly acquired right to make money as a football player to help out the children's hospital.
Tyler Goodson is the starting running back for the Iowa Hawkeyes and a pretty good player. He's a tough runner that will be playing football on Sundays in 2022.
Goodson has decided to use his recently received NIL rights to raise some money for the Stead Family Children's Hospital.
These Name and Image Likeness (NIL) rights give NCAA players the opportunity to earn money off their own name. We've seen plenty of college athletes take advantage of this new rule. It's reported that some of the more popular athletes in the NCAA are earning well into the 6-figures.
All that money is (rightly) going to the players, Goodson's idea is one of the first I've heard of that will be used to raise money for a charity.
Goodson is giving away a private virtual meet and greet with him, a pair of game-worn autographed Nike football cleats, and an exclusive package of Goodson's official apparel line to one grand prize winner.
He is also giving away more private zoom calls, video shoutouts, and autographed pictures.
To enter the contest, you need to purchase entries on the event's website.
A message on the website:
Tyler and the whole Hawkeye Football Team are passionate about empowering youth and supporting the sick children in our communities. As a result, a portion of the proceeds from this sweepstakes will benefit the University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital.
You have until the end of the year to purchase entries, possible Christmas gift idea for any Hawkeye fans in your life.
The Hawkeyes take on the University of Illinois this Saturday at 1PM. You can listen to the game right here on 1440 WROK.
