Bed Bath & Beyond Stores Are Returning to Illinois With a Surprising Twist

Three years after declaring bankruptcy and closing all retail stores, Bed Bath & Beyond is back with three new shopping experiences in Illinois.

If you're anything like me, hearing the words "Bed Bath & Beyond is coming back" instantly brings back memories.

It feels like it was just yesterday when I was a newly engaged woman walking through the aisles of Bed Bath & Beyond completely confused and overwhelmed about what items to add to my bridal registry.  Fast forward nearly 17 years, and I still have all the items from my wedding registry tucked away in my kitchen cabinets, and yes, I have held onto a few of their famous white boxes for way longer than I should have as well.

I was bummed when all Bed Bath & Beyond stores closed following the company's bankruptcy in 2023, but good news, Bed Bath & Beyond has officially made a return to Illinois, but this time with a twist.

Return of Bed Bath & Beyond Stores in Illinois

After Bed Bath & Beyond declared bankruptcy in 2023, Overstock.com bought the brand name and relaunched it as a website and app, but now stores will be returning too...with a friend.

Earlier this year Bed Bath & Beyond announced it was acquiring The Container Store, and now we know what that means: Bed Bath & Beyond + The Container Store retail outlets opening in different cities throughout the country.

A press release from Bed Bath & Beyond says:

The new format is designed to better serve the unique needs of local customers, creating a more connected home shopping experience and strengthening Bed Bath & Beyond's role as a trusted home destination within the neighborhoods it serves.

The first 22 locations will begin welcoming customers to the new format immediately, with additional stores scheduled to convert over the coming several weeks as the company continues its nationwide transformation.

Bed Bath & Beyond + The Container Store locations are already open in:

• Chicago, Illinois
• Northbrook, Illinois
• Oak Brook, Illinois

It sounds like the rollout of these "co-branded" stores will continue in former Bed Bath & Beyond and/or The Container Store locations, so will Stateline-area locations be a part of the next phase?

I think I'll start looking for old Bed Bath & Beyond coupons in my junk drawer just in case.
