Police are responding to a report of an active shooter situation continues at Rockford's Crusader Clinic.

UPDATE: 6:27 p.m. WREX TV is reporting that the shooter is in police custody. Broadway ave traffic should be open shortly.


UPDATE: 6:25 p.m
. WREX-TV is reporting that according to Rockford Police Assistant Deputy Chief Hoey:

The shooter at Crusader Community Health Clinic on Broadway in Rockford is contained on the second floor, and is actively communicating with crisis negotiators.

UPDATE: 5:45 p.m. The Rockford Register Star reports that there were reports of two to five shots fired, but no one was injured. That word from Pat Hoey, assistant deputy chief of Rockford Police Department. WREX reports that Rockford police say gunman asked to speak with his family.

Update: 5:00pm: WREX-TV is reporting that Crusader Community Health CEO Gordon Eggers says area law enforcement are converging to the second floor of the clinic.

The second floor of the clinic includes a medical unit with a pediatric ward, family medicine and general practitioners. Officials believe the suspect remains in the East wing of the area.

WREX says that paramedics were near the Clinic responding to a medical call when they heard clinic staff calling out "Man with a gun."

The Rockford Register Star is reporting that police personnel are at the scene at this hour.

The newspaper also says that there have been no reports of any injuries. All employees have evacuated the building.

Police from area law enforcement agencies converged on Crusader Clinic shortly after 2 p.m. when a call reporting an "active shooter," was made. Several blocks are closed on Broadway as police negotiate with the suspect.
