When heading back to work on Monday (7/21), you may need to take a different way if your route goes through this major Rockford intersection.

Water Main Work Forces Intersection Closure

According to a press release from the City of Rockford's Public Works, the 11th Street Reconstruction Project is progressing, with Phase 1 continuing this summer.

A new traffic pattern is now in place along the entire project area as crews now focus on getting water mains replaced beneath the northbound lanes, as work steadily moves northward through the corridor.

Just 3 Days Until Road Closure

Starting on Monday, July 21, the intersection of 11th Street and 15th Avenue will be closed to all traffic for water main installation.

The closure is expected to last two weeks, so if you use this route, it's strongly encouraged to use alternative routes until reopening.

City officials have taken traffic control measures and marked detour routes to help motorists navigate the construction zone until completion. Daily closures of side roads at intersections will occur while work is ongoing.

Access WILL remain open for residents, local businesses, mail services, deliveries, trash collection, and emergency vehicles throughout the length of the project.

Major Infrastructure Upgrades Underway

The 11th Street project has a massive amount of upgrades through the corridors, including:

  • full roadway reconstruction
  • driveway approaches
  • new sidewalks
  • multi-use paths
  • curbs
  • gutters
  • storm sewer upgrades
  • water and sanitary sewer replacements
  • Modernized traffic signals

Work is expected to be completed in a couple of weeks, but it depends on whether weather conditions are favorable.

Drivers are reminded to reduce speed in work zones and remain alert for construction workers.
