Sheriff Launches Traffic Safety Campaign to Combat Hazardous Driving

Running from August 16 through the early morning of September 3, including Labor Day weekend, this high-visibility enforcement initiative will focus on discouraging distracted driving, impaired driving, and non-compliance with seat belt laws.

According to a press release from the Winnebago County Sheriff, This initiative is not limited to Winnebago County alone.

To enhance its effectiveness, the Sheriff’s Office is partnering with the Illinois State Police and local law enforcement agencies across the state.

The collaboration aims to create a unified front in the battle against dangerous driving behaviors and ensure a safer driving environment for all.

Sheriffs Enforcement Campaign Emphasizes Seat Belt Safety

A major part of the Sheriff's safety campaign is the "Click It or Ticket" initiative. Emphasizing that wearing a seat belt is the most effective way to protect oneself in a crash, the campaign urges all drivers and passengers to buckle up, regardless if they're seated in the front or back seats.

As Labor Day festivities approach, the campaign also highlights the importance of designating a sober driver. Impairment from alcohol, cannabis, or other substances can significantly impact judgment and reaction times when behind the wheel.

The message is clear: make sure your friends and family do not drive under the influence, no matter what they're using. Even minimal impairment can make driving dangerous.
