Just when you thought you'd have to go to Chicago to enjoy some of Chicago's "Most Iconic" foods.

Chicago Magazine just published their list of the "Most Iconic" food in the Windy City and a couple of them are in our own backyard.

BORN IN CHICAGO, BELOVED IN ROCKFORD

The funny thing is, these two restaurants are so totally Chicago, but they are blowing up and spreading out all over America.

Portillo's and Lou Malnati's came to Rockford not too long ago and in that time they have become a staple for many a Forest City resident.

PORTILLO'S & LOU MALNATI'S OFFERS UP ICONIC GOODNESS

So it should come as no surprise that two of their offerings are considered some of the "Most Iconic" in Chicago.

I guess by default that would make Portillo's Chocolate Cake and the Chicago Classic from Lou Malnati's "iconic" in Rockford as well.

If you don't believe me, reviews for the Portillo's location, 6090 East State Street in Rockford agree on the Chocolate Cake.

One Yelp reviewer said, "Did I mention chocolate cake? Not just ordinary chocolate cake, this stuff is obviously made by the Holy Gods of all chubbo cheat day- eaters...myself included."

The Chicago Classic at Lou Malnati's, 6240 Mulford Village Drive in Rockford isn't far behind when it comes to hype trains either. A Yelper said "They have nailed it. Good Job Rockford!  It is the best and worth a trip to order the Chicago Classic with butter crust."

Lou Malnati's in Rockford is rated a 3 out of 5 by Yelp reviewers while Portillo's in town is at a 3.5 out of 5.

If you had to pick between the Chocolate Cake from Portillo's or the Chicago Classic at Lou Malnati's which one would you choose?
