Breaking News: Rockford Police Investigate Homicide After Woman Shot
Tragic Incident on Rockton Avenue
Rockford police responded to distressing reports of shots fired in the 1700 block of N. Rockton Avenue just after 7 pm on Wednesday (9/18).

According to a press release from the Rockford Police Department, when officers arrived on the scene at 7:10 pm, they discovered a 26-year-old woman suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
The woman was transported to a local hospital but succumbed to her injuries from the shooting, according to the report.
Identifying the Suspect in Rockford Homicide
Rockford Police Detectives quickly launched an investigation into the homicide, uncovering critical information that led to the identification of a suspect.
According to the report, Demond Curry, a 29-year-old resident of Machesney Park, is believed to be connected to the victim.
Authorities have charged him with two counts of first-degree murder, three counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm, and unlawful use of a weapon by a felon.
Murder Suspect At-Large, Community Urged to Help
Curry remains at large, prompting local law enforcement to urge the community for assistance. The Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office has authorized charges against him, emphasizing that these charges are accusations until proven otherwise in court.
