With all the pumpkin patches in our state, it's no surprise that Illinois was once the record holder for the United States largest pumpkin. In 2015 A Midwest factory worker named Gene McMullen grew the Largest Pumpkin in North America. It was grown in  Streator Illinois and Weighed in at 2,145 pounds.

Now that would make one heck of a Jack-O-Lantern.  Can you imagine a pumpkin that big? It's tough enough carrying a large pumpkin back to the car when you leave your favorite patch.

The year before, Gene's largest pumpkin weighed in at 1,692 pounds which is still a feat in itself. Imagine the number of pies you could make out of that thing. Too bad you would need a forklift to move it anywhere.

Some people have the greenest of thumbs, I personally do not. So how did he do it? Special fertilizer? Really good dirt? Lots of water maybe? According to Gene, he did the same thing all Pumpkin farmers do. I don't know, there's got to be a secret out there somewhere to grow a monstrosity like this.
