Well, there's one good thing about the arctic cold snap that Rockford is experiencing; we don't have to worry about the annual Illinois Snow Sculpting Competition at Sinnissippi Park being cancelled or postponed.

The competition, hosted each year by the Rockford Park District, is set to begin on January 17, 2018 with award presentations happening on January 20.

If you've never gone to view these frosty and amazing works of art, you should make a point to take the family out there this year. Even Elsa herself would be in awe of some of these works of art.

Here's a few things you should know before you go:

  • The state competition will take place January 17-20, with the high school competition taking place January 18-20.
  • Admission is free, but donations are welcomed
  • Viewing takes place daily until 10:30 p.m. and patrons may walk or drive through the exhibits at Sinnissippi Park
