Nature and wildlife can be intriguing, awe-inspiring, confusing, and sometimes deadly. Out of sheer morbid curiosity, I wondered what animal in Illinois is labeled "most dangerous," which led to the animal most likely to kill a human. This led to a frightening discovery. The answer might be an animal you've actually seen and one you have definitely read about.

Before revealing Illinois, let's look at some of the surrounding states.

IOWA

Moooooove out of the way when cattle are near. Livestock has been responsible for many deaths over the last several decades in Iowa.

Many of the causes of death are listed as blunt force trauma to either the head or chest, often caused by getting trapped in enclosed spaces with cattle that are known to be aggressive.

In Indiana, a cute majestic animal has an interesting reason for being at the top of the list for the Hoosier state.

Deer topped the list but not because of what they may do to you in the wild. The reason these creatures are the #1 animal that can kill you in Indiana is because of what can happen if you hit one with your vehicle.

Missouri:

One of Dwight Schrute's favorite animals is Tennessee's number one killer, the black bear. If you've spent any time near nature down there you've probably spotted them or at least signs indicating they're nearby.

What Is The #1 Animal In Illinois That Could Kill You?

This one made me a little uncomfortable because I didn't know they actually existed in real life. As doing a little fact checking there have been several reported incidents involving a beast you don't want any part of.

Illinois' most deadly animal is disgusting in appearance. Some people actually confuse these creatures with stray dogs. These are "zombie coyotes." They're very much alive, very much disease-ridden, and very much can kill you and your little dog too.

LOOK: Here are the pets banned in each state

Because the regulation of exotic animals is left to states, some organizations, including The Humane Society of the United States, advocate for federal, standardized legislation that would ban owning large cats, bears, primates, and large poisonous snakes as pets.
