Illinois now has an official state vegetable: The winner is sweet corn!
WIFR-TV reports that this past Thursday, Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner signed legislation Thursday, making it official.
The measure was introduced by State Sen. Sam McCann Plainview and passed with unanimous support. The legislation was inspired by fourth-graders at Chatham Elementary School in Chatham, IL.
Some other Illinois Official Designations:
- Official State Snack Food: Popcorn
- Official Flower: Violet
- Official State bird: Cardinal (Sorry, Cubs fans)
