State Finally Gets $14.7 Million in Overdue Money To RFD
The money, held up for over two years because of a budget impasse, will go toward the airport’s maintenance, repair, and overhaul facility.
In 2015, local banks stepped in to provide money toward the MRO construction. Since then, the airport has been paying $100,000 a month in interest.
“The people of the Rockford area have waited long enough for the money they were promised for the Chicago Rockford International Airport,” Comptroller Susana Mendoza said. “Keeping our transportation facilities competitive and modern is a priority, and so is keeping our promises.”
On Wednesday, Mendoza’s office said the voucher arrived in the comptroller’s office from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Community Affairs, and it is being processed and issued Thursday.
