Winter can be boring, but it doesn't have to be!

Sure, you can buy all the fun winter toys like snowmobiles and sleds, but this year the Rockford Park District is providing plenty of FREE winter fun that your family should totally take advantage of.  See the full list of winter activities available from the Rockford Park District here, but there is one thing on the list that my kids are pretty stoked about, and that is making a Rocky the Snowman in our yard!

Free 'Rocky the Snowman' kits are now available for pickup at several different locations in Rockford;

  • Carlson Ice Arena

  • Lockwood Park

  • Mercyhealth Sportscore Two

  • Nicholas Conservatory & Gardens

  • Snow Park at Alpine Hills

  • UW Health Sports Factory

  • Washington Park Community Center

Ready for the best part? Not only will building your own Rocky the Snowman provide some outdoor entertainment for your family, but it could win you prizes if you submit pictures of it to webmaster@rockfordparkdistrict.org. by February 28, 2021!

The Rockford Park District will select one grand prize winner for the most creative “Rocky the Snowman”! The winner will receive a special surprise Rockford Park District gift basket. Anyone who submits a photo will also be entered into a separate drawing for a chance to win a 4-pack of tickets to Snow Park at Alpine Hills valid for the 2021-2022 season. Five winners will be drawn. Winners will be announced the week of March 1, 2021, on our website and Facebook.

I know I just said that winning a prize for your Rocky the Snowman creation was the best part of the Park District's winter activities this year, but I was wrong. This creative video is actually the best part...

Bravo, Rockford Park District! That video certainly made me smile today.
