My blood pressure hit an all time high when I saw a Facebook friend share this post last night with the headline:

"Snapchat Will Be Shutting Down By The End of 2017"

Excuse me, what? I automatically clicked the link and found a semi-legit looking article that said this:

The CEO Evan Spiegel of the very popular app Snapchat has released that Snapchat will be removed from all app stores by December 30, 2017.

According to Fox News Media, Evan has decided to make this decision due to copyright and legal issues with Facebook, Instagram, and Musical.ly. By the date December 30, 2017 all Snapchat apps with be removed from all devices and all app stores.

DISCLAIMER all data and media associated with the app will also be deleted within the app. Download all data you do not wish to lose prior to 12/30/17.

NO! How will I survive without taking pictures of me and my daughters looking like deer with fabulous eyelashes?!? How will we entertain ourselves without making videos of us singing in funny voices?!?

I then decided to take a few deep breaths and go to the place I always go to for validation when I find news that is too shocking to actually believe; Snopes.com. Once again, I was relieved to see this:

 FALSE

Thank the sweet baby Jesus. According to Snopes, this "news" is from a known "prank-generator" website and;

Unfortunately, the Internet being what it is, few people actually do click to discover that Snapchat has announced no plans to close down the wildly popular site before they share it, thus promulgating the hoax.

Dirty tricksters. I almost fell for it. I hope you don't do the same.
