The Springfield Road overpass at U.S. Highway 20 may soon be renamed the “Trooper Brooke Jones-Story Memorial Overpass" to honor the life of fallen Illinois State Police Trooper Brooke Jones-Story.

According to the Rockford Register Star, shortly after the tragic death Trooper Brooke Jones-Story in March, Representative Andrew Chesney of Freeport filed a resolution to have this stretch of highway renamed in her honor, and last Thursday the Illinois House of Representatives unanimously passed it.

The RRStar reports;

Chesney filed the resolution shortly after Jones-Story’s death and worked with her family to find a suitable stretch of road for the memorial. Robert Story, Jones-Story’s husband, said he chose the overpass because it was an area his wife often patrolled.

Robert Story also told the Rockford Register Star;

At first, (lawmakers) wanted to name the area near where the crash happened after her, but really, that’s not an area that I or the family want to be reminded of.

Before the Springfield Road overpass can be officially re-named, the resolution needs to pass the Illinois State Senate and be signed by Governor Pritzker.
