Goodbye Ruby Tuesday! Ruby Restaurant Locations in Illinois suddenly closed.

All Illinois locations of the Ruby Tuesday Restaurant Chain appear to have closed for good, including the Rockford and DeKalb locations.

Ruby Tuesday has 11 locations in Illinois and according to WAND-TV.

Confirmed closed locations include:

  • Rockford
  • DeKalb
  • Decatur
  • Champaign
  • All suburban Chicago locations

The News Gazette reports that a sign on the door at one location said "Closed - Thank-You". The DeKalb location had a similar sign posted on it's front door on Wednesday.

WAND-TV reports that Ruby Tuesday issued the following statement:

Our Illinois Ruby Tuesday restaurants were owned and operated by an independent franchisee. As the franchisor of this concept, we went to great lengths in assisting the franchisee to remain open but he has made the decision to close his restaurants.  We appreciate the patronage of the many residents and guests that have dined at the Illinois Ruby Tuesday restaurants over the years along with the dedicated employees of the franchisee and will evaluate opportunities to return to the market in the future.

The only Illinois location that answered when I called was the location in Litchfield, Il who did not comment. The Litchfield location is a corporate store, all others in Illinois are franchised locations. There was no answer at the Rockford or DeKalb locations.

Employees were given no notification whatsoever and received text messages this morning before reporting for work. No advance notice was given to employees or customers.

So, if you're like me and have a Ruby Tuesday gift card, you are out of luck! Nice going guys.
