Former Chicago Cub to be inducted into the RPS 205 Hall of Fame.

There is a nice history of great athletes from in and around the Rockford area. Of course, there are some current ones playing professional sports right now.

Currently, in the NFL, you have James Robinson playing for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Also, Dean Lowery on the Green Bay Packers. In the NBA, Fred VanVleet has made quite a name for himself.

In the past history of Rockford sports, there's Chad Knaus from NASCAR, college basketball coach, Ernie Kent, and MLS player, Bryan Namoff to name a few.

Now, another former Forest City athlete is going to be honored in town.

According to mystateline.com,

"Former Rockford East baseball standout Rodney Myers leads the 2001 inductees for the RPS 205 Athletic Hall of Fame."

I remember when that E-RAB alumnus played for the Chicago Cubs. He was a pitcher for the Northsiders.

He played ball at East High School until he graduated in 1987. He was all-conference in the NIC-10. In college, he was at the University of Wisconsin. Myers played a minor league season for the Rockford Royals in 1993. From 1996 to 1999, he pitched for the Chicago Cubs.

What a childhood dream come true for a local kid from Rockford, Illinois.

Also, being inducted into the 2021 Rockford Public School Athletic Hall of Fame is Ralph "Moon' Baker, Jametta Bland, 2002 to 2005 Guilford High School boys soccer teams, Tom Schwalbach, and Dan Miller.

Congratulations to all the inductees, that is an incredible honor.

"Usually the District 205 Athlete Hall of Fame inductions and the Champions Ball are held in February. For now the 2021 event is on hold because of current mitigation strategies during the pandemic. A date will be announced in the future."
