Rockford’s Oldest Restaurant Announces It Will Close

Rockford's oldest restaurant, Der Rathskeller, announced earlier today they are closing.

On the Der Rathskeller Facebook:

Thank you to our customers, staff and all of Rockford for nearly 90 years of support. It has been a pleasure and honor to serve you.

The restaurant will also issue refunds on all gift certificates purchased within the last year.

The Facebook reaction has ranged from "not surprised" to "sorry to hear."

Current ownership is looking to sell the longtime German restaurant with hopes to reopen in the future.
