Four Rockford Summer Camps Kids Actually Love

There are two types of moms in early May: the ones calmly soaking in the final weeks of school…and the ones (hi, it’s me) who just realized my kids will be on summer break in just a few short weeks.

Right now, my life feels very much like this:

Don't get me wrong, I love summer for all the ice cream, backyard barbecues, and pool time, but I don't enjoy the “Mommmm, I’m bored,” that begins about two weeks after school lets out.

So, this year, I am getting ahead of it. (Or at least pretending to.)

Best Camps For Kids in the Rockford Area

After years of trial, error, and last-minute panic sign-ups, I’ve learned a few important truths about summer camps in the Rockford area:

1. Don't just sign your kids up for a camp you think they'll love. Talk to them about which ones they'd like to go to.
2. The more variety, the better. Choose camps with different themes, attractions, and locations.
3. Don't take your sweet time signing up for the most popular camps... they fill up fast!

Now for the good news. Rockford has a ton of awesome camp options to choose from. There are outdoor adventure camps, pony camps, sports camps, and everything in between.

Here's one more helpful tip: if a summer camp your child chooses fills up before you can get them registered, Vacation Bible Schools at local churches and free park programs can be total lifesavers.
