In an effort to increase positivity and confidence in students, the Rockford Public Schools have started a new "Our Alumni Rock" campaign to honor past RPS 205 students who are accomplishing great things.

As a proud graduate of Jefferson High School, I often get bummed over the bad rap Rockford Public Schools are getting these days. Does the district have its share of problems? You bet, but maybe highlighting something positive about the district for once will be a welcome change of pace. I personally know tons of RPS alumna who are up to awesome things and are making great strides in their professional and personal lives.

A 1999 Auburn High School graduate named Anqunette Parham is the first alumna to be honored for being a public health advocate with future legal aspirations.

Other alumni who have recognized so far by RPS 205 are:

  • Paul Thome, East High School (1969), president of Sallie Mae Bank;
  • Dr. Zach Morris, Guilford High School (1998), assistant professor, University of Wisconsin School of Medicine;
  • Brittany Glidden, Jefferson High School (1998), journalism teacher at East High School;
  • Melissa Cadena, Roosevelt Alternative High School (2012), quality control at Fastenal, Loves Park
