
Rockford Police Arrest Three in Separate Gun-Related Incidents
The Rockford Police Department released more details about a couple of gun-related incidents that started the week.
First Incident: Traffic Stop Leads to Arrests, Weapons Seizure
SCOPE officers from the Rockford Police Department attempted a traffic stop near Broadway and 9th Street around 9:30 pm on Sunday night (2/23).
While making the stop, one passenger in the vehicle exited and fled on foot, according to the press release. Officers were able to quickly apprehend the suspect who was notified as 38-year-old Edward Wells of Rockford.

While doing their investigation, RPD officers recovered a loaded handgun with an extended magazine, and over 46 grams of cannabis, which led to the arrest of another occupant in the vehicle.
30-year-old Ricki McLin of Rockford has been charged with Aggravated Battery to Police, Possession to Intent to Deliver Cannabis, and Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon.
Edward Well was charged with Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Felon, No Valid FOID, Obstructing/Resisting, and an Outstanding Weapons Warrant out of Iowa.
Second Incident: Attempted Escape Ends in Arrest
On Monday, February 24, Rockford Police attempted to conduct another traffic stop in the 1100 block of 7th Avenue around 10:55 pm.
Lewis Brown was the first to exit the vehicle and attempted to flee, but was immediately detained.
Officers recovered a loaded handgun during the incident, and Brown was then lodged in the Winnebago County Jail.
