The former Dick's Sporting Goods location next to Schnuck's on East State Street in Rockford has sat vacant for over 2 years, but some familiar businesses are getting ready to take over the space soon.
When Did Dick's Sporting Goods Old Rockford Location Close?
For some residents in Rockford, Illinois it might seem like the Dick Sporting Goods location on E State next to Schnuck's just closed yesterday, while others may feel like they have been looking at the abandoned eye sore for years now, which is actually true.
Dick's Sporting Goods announced it would be closing its original Rockford store on E State St. in August 2020 as it prepared to move into a new location in the Forest Plaza shopping center, which opened in March 2021.
The change of address may have been good for Dick's Sporting Goods, but it left a big, empty building across the street that desperately needs new a new business to move into. Turns out, that day is finally coming.
Two Rockford Stores Are Moving Into Former Dick's Sporting Goods Building
If you've driven by the former Dick's Sporting Goods store by Schnuck's in the last few weeks, you've probably noticed some construction activity happening there and wondered, "What's going on?!?" Well, two familiar businesses are getting ready to relocate into the space.
The Rockford Register Star reports;
The site superintendent for Aurora-based Hanna Design Group, an architecture, interior design and construction firm, confirmed Burlington and Joann Fabrics and Crafts, will occupy the space.
The RRStar's article says Burlington will occupy "26,946 square feet of space and Joann Fabric will occupy 28,883 square feet", but no official moving or opening dates have been announced for either store yet.
The only question left to answer now is; what will happen to the building spaces that currently house Joann Fabrics and Burlington? I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
