Coyote sightings are becoming very regular in the Rockford area, making it dangerous for small children and pets.

There's a near 42% increase in coyote sightings in urban areas across Illinois over the last decade. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources says that number will likely continue to grow as coyotes become more acclimated to humans.

Rockford 14th Ward Ald. Joe Chiarelli, who has received many calls and emails about coyote sightings, says city leaders are working on coordinating a town hall about the coyote issue.

If you see a coyote in your neighborhood, you're encouraged to report it to the Illinois DNR.
