
Rockford Police Arrest Man After Gunfire Incident on Benton Street
A man from Rockford has been arrested after allegedly firing his gun just east of downtown, which led to a search of his residence.
Shots Fired Report Leads to Investigation
According to a press release from the Rockford Police Department, officers responded to a report of shots fired in the 1000 block of Benton Street around 10:30 pm on Wednesday, September 17.

When officers arrived, they observed a suspect quickly enter the apartment building, where a spent shell casing was located nearby, but when police attempted to make contact, no one responded at the apartment.
Search Warrant Executed
Detectives from the RPD Violent Crimes Unit opened an investigation into the incident, and later secured a search warrant for the suspect's residence, who police identified as 31-year-old Deandre Edwards of Rockford.
On Thursday morning (9/25), detectives executed the warrant with assistance from the Narcotics and Gang Units.
During the search, Edwards was present and taken into custody without incident, where two firearms and ammunition were recovered, according to the press release.
Charges Filed
Following a review by the Winnebago County State's Attorney's Office, Edwards has been charged with multiple counts, including Reckless Discharge of a Firearm, and Possession of a Firearm Without a Firearm Owner's ID Card.

Deandre Edwards was lodged in the Winnebago County Jail, and according to the report, additional charges could be filed as the investigation continues.
