Rockford Police say it was an assault call that led to a man being arrested for drugs, guns, and stolen vehicles.

Aggravated Assault Call Leads to Larger Investigation

According to a Rockford PD press release, officers were called to an apartment complex in the 4400 block of Carthage Drive on Sunday, September 14, when victims reported a suspect had previously stolen a vehicle and had a firearm.

The suspect was identified as 34-year-old Brian Davis of Rockford, who had apparently fled from the scene before officers arrived, but this set off a chain of events that would unfold over a week.

Return to the Same Complex Ends in Arrest

Around 8:42 a.m. on Friday, September 19, Rockford Police responded to the same apartment complex on Carthage Drive after reports of a suspicious man with a satchel speeding into the parking lot.

A K-9 officer was able to identify the suspicious man as Brian Davis, who attempted to flee the complex but was quickly surrounded.

During the investigation, RPD officers discoverd that the vehicle he drove had been reported stolen and contained live handgun ammunition.

Search Warrant Reveals Drugs and Firearms

Detectives with the Rockford Police Department's Violent Crime and Gang Unit obtained a warrant for Davis' apartment, and at approximately 12:25 on Friday, September 19, they executed the search.

According to the report, Davis was taken into custody without incident, along with two other individuals who were in the apartment, one who had a warrant for domestic battery and another for meth possession.

Police reportedly recovered over 71 grams of methamphetamine, more than 300 grams of cannabis, multiple firearms, ammunition, and a taser.

Multiple Charges Filed

The Winnebago County State's Attorney's Office authorized charges, including possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine and cannabis, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, and possession of a stolen vehicle.

Davis also faces multple outstanding warrants across northern Illinois and Wisconsin.
