
Rockford Man Charged in Violent Armed Robbery at Local Market
A terrifying situation today at a market on East State Street when a man attempted an armed robbery.
Armed Robbery Reported on East State Street
According to the Rockford Police press release, officers responded to an armed robbery report at 813 East State Street around 8:15 am at Faust Market.

Around 8:15 am, officers were dispatched following an alarming call that a man had threatened the store clerk with a knife.
Clerk Assaulted and Held at Knifepoint
According to Rockford Police, the suspect in the assault is 55-year-old Oscar Taylor of Rockford, and during the robbery, he reportedly lifted the store clerk by the neck and held him at knifepoint while demanding money.
Taylor fled the scene with cash in hand, and officers arriving on the scene quickly found evidence nearby, including the knife, clothing, and stolen money.
Suspect Apprehended and Charged
A short time later, Rockford Police officers located and arrested Taylor in the area.
Following an investigation, the Winnebago County State's Attorney's Office authorized multiple felony charges:
- Armed Robbery
- Aggravated Robbery
- Aggravated Battery - Strangulation
Taylor was booked into the Winnebago County Jail.
Police Seek Additional Information
Rockford Police reminds the public that charges are only accusations and Taylor is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
