A narcotics investigation that the Winnebago County Sheriff's Office (WCSO) led turned into a significant seizure of drugs and cash on Thursday (4/3).

Winnebago County Deputies Seize 3 Kilograms of Cocaine

According to a WCSO press release, detectives have been investigating for several weeks after receiving tips from the community about possible drug activity happening in the Rockford area.

Deputies identified 34-year-old Victor Gutierrez from Rockford as a suspect in the case, and on Thursday (4/3) members of the Winnebago County Narcotics Unit spotted Gutierrez inside a vehicle in the 2700 block of Lapey Street.

He was taken into custody without incident, and inside the vehicle, deputies discovered over 3 kilograms of cocaine, MDMA (Ecstasy), cannabis, and a large amount of cash.

The Winnebago County State's Attorney's Office has authorized multiple felony charges against Gutierrez, including manufacturing and delivering over 900 grams of cocaine.

Charges and Community Reminder

Victor Gutierrez faces four felony drug charges, and all charges are accusations and he's presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, according to the WCSO press release.

Anyone with information about illegal drug activity happening in the city is encouraged to contact the Winnebago County Sheriff's Office at 815-319-6300, or submit an anonymous tip through Rockford Area Crime Stoppers at 815-963-7867.
