If you’ve spent any time in downtown Rockford, you’ve probably had a night (or two) at District Bar & Grill on W State Street.

District has always been our go-to place to grab a quick drink or dinner before heading to an event at The BMO Center or Coronado Theater, so when rumors started circling that the District is for sale, I got a little worried.

Before we all start panicking and assuming another local business is closing, here’s what’s actually going on: the business itself is for sale, not the building. So, as of right now, District isn’t closing, but it could see some major changes depending on who buys it.

And that’s where the mixed emotions come in.

Future of District Bar & Grill in Rockford

The District Bar & Grill is currently listed for $500,000 and could be a really cool opportunity for someone local to step in with a new vision while keeping the spirit of District alive.

District is a well-known downtown spot with a built-in crowd, a full bar and kitchen setup, and a reputation as a go-to for drinks, food, live entertainment, and slots.

There's also the chance new owners will completely change it, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

New ownership could re-brand the business with new menus and a completely different vibe that would entice the Rockford community to come back and check it out.

Rockford has worked really hard to build up the downtown area into a fun, social atmosphere over the past decade, and places like District have played a big role in that.
