After Weeks of Silence Gustafson’s Furniture Reopens in Rockford
Gustafson's Furniture and Mattress in Rockford has reopened again for business, but many residents are wondering how long it will last.
What's Up With Gustafson's Furniture and Mattress?
After many weeks of confusion, frustration, and unanswered phone calls, there’s finally an update for Gustafson’s Furniture and Mattress: they’re back open.
At the beginning of February, rumors started flying that Gustafson's Furniture and Mattress had suddenly closed, leaving many customers wondering what the heck was going on.
My husband and I had put money down on a new couch and chair at Gustafson's about two weeks before this chaos began, so seeing posts asking “Did Gustafson’s close for good?” definitely raised my stress level several notches.
The most recent post on Gustafson's Facebook, posted February 4, says:
As many of you know, the Gustafsons are restructuring the business so that Dale and Trina can retire, and David Gustafson and Christopher Gustafson can continue serving our community for another 98 years. We are working to resume normal business functions soon. Thank you for your patience and understanding during this transitionary time. -David Gustafson
Since early February, Gustafson's has reopened, then closed again, and for the last month customers have been trying to contact Gustafson's with no success.
Needless to say, customers are mad. Really mad.
Update on Gustafson's Furniture and Mattress
After a long stretch of silence, it looks like Gustafson’s Furniture and Mattress has finally reopened.
My mother alerted me to a post in the Loves Park Neighborhood Watch Group that included this photo taken at Gustafson's on Sunday, April 5:
For customers who have orders pending at Gustafson's, this news should provide some relief, but it hasn't for many.
People are still wondering if their purchases will be fulfilled, and rumors are swirling that Gustafson's only reopened to sell off remaining merchandise. As I write this, Gustafson's Furniture and Mattress has not made a public statement about the store's future, but I'm feeling very pessimistic.
I need to keep reminding myself that this is a local business with real people navigating big life changes.
I truly hope this long-standing Rockford business finds a way to restore its reputation and continue to serve this community for many years to come.
