As if Illinois taxes aren't high enough, now Rockford city leaders want to charge all pet owners a new fee.

City leaders want to make some more money from all cat and dog owners, according to WIFR, to help pay for animal control services.

The license would cost $10 dollars for altered pets, and $25 dollars for unaltered.

It might seem like a small price to pay for our fur babies but what about owners with a really tight budget? What about owners that are already paying extra rent for the pets?

Owning a pet is not cheap. Food, care necessities, grooming, veterinary bills - it all adds up. It's a safe bet that some owners will not pay or the number of strays and surrendered pets will increase, filling up animal shelters.

If the latter happens it'll just cost the city even more money, won't it?

How about our city leaders do their job and balance a budget without continuing to give residents more and more fees and taxes to pay. It's ridiculous.
