Rockford Christian's high school and middle schools teamed as one to honor fallen McHenry County Deputy Jacob Keltner in multiple ways through one big effort.

According to RCS's Facebook, they (both schools) collectively signed a banner that will be displayed at Officer Keltner's funeral. Students also raised $3,000 for Jacob Keltner's family through RCS's "Casual for a Cause" program, which allows students to come to school out of uniform in exchange for a donation. In a comment to MyStateline.com, Principal Drew Popejoy says it's a way to teach young people the importance of honoring those that protect us as well as being mindful of what's happening in the world around them.

We want them to be better members of the community, and that means reaching out when there's a need. That means paying attention to the world around them. Nothing can replace a husband, a father, a co-worker, but we wanted to make sure the family knew we were thinking of them, that our prayers are with them.

Despite the "lists" and negativity often associated with Rockford and its citizen, this community is no stranger to coming together in times of importance and in times of need.
