It's a simple fact, I hate extreme heat and humidity, and without a pool to cool down in, I would never survive summer in Illinois.
Ok, maybe that is a tad extreme. Perhaps I should say I would never survive summer in Illinois with a good attitude instead.
My family is blessed enough to have a large pool in our backyard, but this year we are getting a later start to our swim season due to some necessary pool improvements.
While we impatiently wait for our pool to be open for swimming fun, we need a backup plan, and thankfully many public pools in the Rockford area will be opening for the 2024 season soon!
Whether you're looking for family-friendly fun, perfecting your backstroke, or simply chilling poolside with friends, Rockford area public pools have something for everyone.
Here are 5 great options to check out this summer...
Popular Public Pools in the Rockford Area
1. Alpine Pool at 4310 Newburg Rd. in Rockford - The pool opens for the season on June 15 and will be open daily from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. through August 11.
2. Harkins Aquatic Center at 910 Acorn St. in Rockford - The pool opens for the season on June 15 and will be open daily from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. through August 18. Admission is free.
3. Hurricane Harbor Rockford - Hurricane Harbor will kick off their 2024 season on Saturday, May 25 (weather permitting), and will be open Sunday and Memorial Day from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. They will be open daily from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. starting Tuesday, June 11.
4. Sand Park Pool at 1041 E Riverside Blvd in Loves Park - Sand Park Pool will open for the season starting June 8 and will be open daily from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. through August 18.
5. Walt Williamson Pool at 100 East Chapel Street in Rockton - This pool opens for the season on Saturday, May 25 and will be open Monday through Friday (starting June 3 through August 9) from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. (May 25 - Aug 11).
