Looking to get a little small-town charm in your life? Well, you won't have to go far from Rockford to get it.

That's because one of the "Most Charming Towns" in America is less than 90 minutes from Rockford.

No, I'm not talking about heading into Chicago, but actually heading the other way.

Traveling slightly northwest of Rockford will land you in the humble burg of Galena, Illinois.

Galena is so charming, 24/7 Temp ranked it 6th on their list of the 23 Most Charming Towns in America.

24/7 Tempo:

Galena is set in the rolling hills of Northwest Illinois. Its 19th-century architecture and opportunities for outdoor recreation attract nearly a million visitors a year.

Hard to disagree with 24/7 Tempo and their description of the town. Galena is truly a beautiful place. The kind of town where you can simply mosey about, window shop or really shop, grab something to eat, and marvel at some of the historic buildings.

If there is one place in the area that would be perfect for a day trip in northern Illinois, Galena would be way up at the top.

If you're making plans to head to Galena, TripAdvisor listed the top attractions in town.

  1. Blaum Bros. Distilling Co.
  2. Ulysses S. Grant Home
  3. P.T Murphy Magic Theatre
  4. Galena / Jo Daviess County Historical Society and Museum
  5. Grant Park

You can take a tour of nearly every one of those five listed above.

If you haven't been to Galena, do yourself a favor and make plans to go. It's worth the drive.
